The Red Ape, Saving the Orangutans

Title
The Red Ape, Saving the Orangutan

Setting
On the Island of Borneo in Indonesia - one of the two places in the world where the Orangutan live the rainforest jungle. The other place is called Sumatra

Main Characters
Carmele Llano Sanchez (Director) International Animal Rescue Centre  - plus 50 keepers and 6 vets who care for over 100 Orangutans.

What was the problem
People who work for wood companies cut the trees down which made deforestation. They cut the trees to make wood and paper to sell to other countries to make lots of money. These trees being cut down caused the Orangutans to lose their food and their home or habitat. They also lost their play area in the trees. People caught Orangutans in the forest and sold them to people for pets, these were babies. Companies also cut the jungle down to plant Palm Oil trees, to sell to people in other countries. Borneo have lost more than half of their forest to deforestation.

What was the solution
The people at International Animal Rescue went to find Organutans with a dart that put them to sleep, they would then fall out of the tree and the people would catch them with a net, the vet would check them. Most of them were very skinny because they did not have enough food because of the deforestation. They would move them if they were healthy to a place with protected forest. If they were not healthy or a baby they would take them back to the vet at the Centre. They cared for them there. They taught the babies to climb trees and find food so they could released into the big forest when they were ready. This was to keep them healthy, safe and protected to make more of them in the world.

Thank you Daddy for typing this for me.

West Coast Wilderness Trail

Over the summer holidays Me, Mum and Dad did the West Coast Wilderness Trail.

It was very exciting because I had never done 132 km in 4 days. To prepare, to pack for the big trip I had to pack a lot of things. It took us 2-hours to get to Greymouth from Christchurch.

We stopped 3 times and 1 time we went to a famous pie shop. After that we went to get ice cream. We stopped at a scenic viewpoint that looked down to a very big bridge. It was called the Viaduct.

Fun with Grandpa

Last year when Grandpa came and we went on the new road that went across the Port hills that got closed because of the earthquakes.

The road leads from Summer to Lyttleton. We also went to Lyttleton city to get sushi and ice cream. Well, we did that we walked to a place that had a slide. I went with Mum, Dad and Grandpa. Being with my family made me feel happy because we were having fun. I never knew that… Grandpa would come to New Zealand to see me even though Grandpa came when I was a baby. When Grandpa comes each year I feel so excited because I probably could not wait for Grandpa to come.

Next year when Grandpa comes I will be happy too.

My Cousins Summer 2019

Over the holidays I went to America last year.

I went to visit my cousins, who live in a house that has a farm. On the farm, there are cows, chickens, cats, goats, horses, dog and a noisy rooster that goes cockle-doodle-doo. When I see my cousins I feel happy, like I just want to play. The best thing I like to do when I go is play on the farm. We also play UNO a lot which makes us feel very happy.

My Aunt Brittany is such a good cook for her family. However, Uncle Marc is a builder instead of a cook. He is better on the barbecue. When I was a baby, Marley the cat jumped into the bath with me.

Having sleepovers at my cousins’ house means that me and Mum have to sleep in a very dark, spooky room with no windows. When we wake up sometimes we don’t even know that it is morning. Because the door is shut, we can not hear the rooster. Addye makes lovely pancakes and I love to eat them with Addye, Baylor, Traton, Aunt Brittany and Uncle Marc.
